JSW MG Motor India has officially launched the new MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV in India, introducing a plug-in hybrid powertrain to the company’s latest three-row SUV. The new model combines a petrol engine with a large battery pack and is positioned as a practical alternative for buyers who want electric driving capability without giving up the convenience of a petrol engine. The MG Tomahawk PHEV has been launched alongside the fully electric Hector Tomahawk.
MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Price In India
The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV is priced from Rs 25.70 lakh ex-showroom for outright purchase, while the higher variant goes up to approximately Rs 27.79 lakh ex-showroom. MG also offers a Battery-as-a-Service, or BaaS, option that brings the initial vehicle price down to around Rs 21.79 lakh, with a battery subscription charge of Rs 3.20 per kilometre.
Powerful Hybrid Setup
The biggest attraction of the Tomahawk PHEV is its hybrid technology. The SUV gets a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle petrol engine producing 102 hp and 125 Nm. It is paired with a 20.5kWh battery pack and an electric motor developing 201 hp and 237 Nm. Power is transferred through a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, giving the SUV a different driving character from conventional petrol models.
MG Tomahawk PHEV Impressive 1,100km Range
MG claims the Hector Tomahawk PHEV can travel more than 1,100km with a full fuel tank and fully charged battery. The SUV also offers a claimed 115km electric-only range, allowing many daily journeys to be completed without using the petrol engine. MG additionally claims combined fuel efficiency of more than 40kmpl under its stated test conditions.
Seven-Seater Interior
The PHEV version is offered exclusively as a seven-seater SUV, making it suitable for larger families. The cabin gets a modern dashboard dominated by a large 15.6-inch infotainment screen. Premium touches include leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof and powered, ventilated front seats. With the third row folded, boot capacity increases significantly for luggage.
MG Tomahawk PHEV Premium Features
MG has equipped the MG Tomahawk PHEV with a long list of technology and convenience features. Depending on the variant, buyers get adaptive cruise control, wireless charging, keyless entry and powered front seats. The large touchscreen forms the centre of the cabin’s technology package, while the overall interior design aims to provide a more premium experience for family buyers.
Charging Technology
The PHEV can be charged using AC charging infrastructure and comes with a 3.3kW charger as standard. MG says the vehicle supports charging through 3.3kW and 7.4kW AC chargers, while DC fast charging is supported at up to 25kW. This gives owners flexibility between home charging and faster charging when required.
Design and Road Presence
The Hector Tomahawk follows a modern three-row SUV design with a substantial road presence. Its upright proportions and spacious cabin are aimed at family buyers, while the PHEV powertrain gives the model a more technologically advanced identity. The combination of conventional SUV styling and electrified mechanicals could appeal to customers who are not yet ready to move completely to an EV.

Competition
The Tomahawk PHEV enters a segment where direct plug-in hybrid competition remains limited. Instead, it will face buyer consideration from SUVs such as the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO, Jeep Meridian and Hyundai Alcazar. Its combination of seven seats, electric-only driving capability and claimed 1,100km total range gives it a distinctive proposition.
Conclusion
The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV represents an important step for India’s mainstream hybrid SUV market. With a 20.5kWh battery, 115km claimed electric range, seven-seat layout and more than 1,100km claimed combined driving range, it offers a compelling blend of efficiency and long-distance practicality. At Rs 25.70 lakh ex-showroom, the PHEV version targets buyers looking for premium technology without completely depending on charging infrastructure.
